Sacramento Rivercats vs. Salt Lake Bees • Raley Field • Sacramento, CA • 5.17.08

As temperatures here hovered near 100º again for the third staight day, we decided to ditch this town and find a place where we could get some relief from this god-awful heat. So, where does one go to find such relief? Sacramento..... of course, where it was a cool 104º when we stepped out of the car... at 5:30 pm!
Seriously though, we were invited by our friends, Bob, Maria and their son, Danny, to attend a Rivercats game today at Raley Field.

Now, who are the Rivercats? They are a minor league baseball team based in Sacramento. The next step for a Rivercat player, if they're gifted and lucky enough, is a chance to play in the “show” (the major leagues) with the Oakland A’s. Anyhow, I digress - back to the day's events. Today was a special day at Raley Field, as it happened to be “Little League Day” - so, we were able to see Danny, along with hundreds of other little leaguers from the Sacramento area, parade around the field before the game. This was quite a sight seeing how excited these players were - as it's always something special (to a baseball fan, at least) to be able to take a step on a professional baseball field!

Shortly after the game started, a nice breeze arrived and the sun quickly disappeared behind the grandstand in back of home plate - and gone with it, the intolerably hot weather - making for a great evening at the ballpark. The Rivercats defeated the Bees, 7-3.
