Lani - regarding the slideshow, you can upload your pictures into a folder on Picasa. After that, you should be able to access an html code which will allow you to post it onto your blog (cut and paste it in the box when you "Add a gadget").
Adding a "chat" function is also pretty simple. I use Cbox - you can find this at http://www.cbox.ws/ - again, sign up at this site, and you will be able to access an html code which you can paste up onto your blog.
