Summer’s Last Hurrah.

In a well-planned surprise on Friday, Kim stealthly orchestrated a fantastic day in Sausalito and San Francisco. The day started with a beautiful ferry ride from Jack London Square in Oakland to the San Francisco’s Ferry Building. On this leg, we got a nice clear view of the Bay Bridge, as it leads into San Francisco. From there, we immediately hopped on another ferry for a cloudy and cool trip over to Sausalito. Usually, one is able to get a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge on this ride, but because of the heavy cloud cover today, this was not fully possible. The weather, however, quickly warmed up and the clouds seemed to just vanish as we stepped foot on the dock in Sausalito. After we grabbed some lunch at Paradise Bay and stepped into a couple shops, we hopped on the ferry back to SF. Back in the “City by the Bay”, we walked the Embarcadero from the Ferry Building to Ghirardelli Square. Along the way, we stopped at Pier 39 to see (and smell... ) the resident sea lions, and ran over all the slow walking tourists who got in our way - ok, not really, but yes, I was in “ugly american” mode as I seriously felt like I was in another country today... aye yi yi! We ended this whirlwind day with our traditional stop for a Ghirardelli ice cream - Kim ordered her usual .... a Hot Fudge Sundae, and I tried out the Mint Chocolate “Quake Shake”... how they infused an entire chocolate bar in that thing is beyond me! Thank goodness the walk back to the Pier 41 ferry was mostly downhill, because we needed as much help from gravity as we could get after that “healthy” (gluttonous) eating display. This trip, pretty much, is my last “escape” of the summer, as I drag myself back to school on Thursday. Where did the summer go?
