If it’s Tuesday, It must be Diamond Head.
We started out at the crack of dawn today (well, almost), in the hopes of “conquering” Diamond Head before it got too hot. Though some grade the hike up to the rim of this dormant volcano as easy-to-moderate, for this wuss who is scared to death of heights, it was somewhat of a challenge. A "warm-up" 76-step staircase led to dark tunnel (where one unfortunate climber had to be airlifted out of on our way back down). At the end of the tunnel, there was what seemed like a straight up 99-step staircase, immediately followed by a 3-story spiral version - oh, what fun (yikes)! Luckily, these final steps lead you to the top. The pictures included in today’s post include the 99-step staircase, a view of the crater, the Waikiki shoreline from atop the crater and what Diamond Head looks like from Honolulu. Oh yeah, by the way, I made it to the top.
