Oakland A’s vs. Boston Red Sox • McAfee Coliseum • Oakland, CA • 5.25.08

It doesn’t happen very often over the course of the baseball season, but today was one of those rare days. As a New York Yankees fan, I have taken the solemn oath to root for any team that plays against the Boston Red Sox. In our household, Kim passionately dislikes the Yankees, as her allegiance leans strongly toward her Oakland Athletics. Because of this attitude, she is what Yankees fans call a “hater”. Why is this? Like so many baseball fans of her ilk, if you are not a Yankees fan, irrationallly...... you hate them. Yes, “hate” is such a strong word, but unfortuately, these are feelings such immature baseball fans have toward the “Greatest Baseball Team in History”. No other team deserves this label, as the Yankees have won - 26 World Championships - far more than any other Major League Baseball team. Oh yeah, so why was it a rare day today? Well, the A’s played the Red Sox, so deep down inside, I had to hope that the home team prevailed. To make a long story short, I silently, so not to encourage Kim, cheered the A’s onto victory and a sweep of this weekend's series with the Bosox. So sorry Red Sox fans, so sorry.
